About:

Your entire fleet was wiped out by a seemingly endless army of aliens. You are the only remaining ship, fighting against thousands of enemies. Can you defeat swarms of aliens to gain the upgrades you'll need to return home? There are currently 10 levels, including one endless, one boss fight, and a tutorial with many more on the way, 3 unique enemies, and 5 unlockable weapons. Earn coins and XP defeating levels to upgrade your rocket and its weapons.

This is my first game and I am trying to get content out quickly - expect some bugs and please comment any that you find. Any help making this a more polished game is appreciated.

BROWSER PLAY IS NOT RECOMMENDED

Godot 4.0 has some issues rendering lighting and environment in HTML5 right now so the graphics will not be as good on web.

Controls:

WASD - move

right click - toggle main gun on/off

QE - shoot weapon one and two respectively

Esc (escape) - exit most UIs

right and left arrow - previous and next page for applicable menus

Space - Dash

How It Works:

when entering into your first level a quick tutorial will be shown but if you want a refresher here are the basic concepts of the game:

  • your main turret will shoot and aim automatically
  • right click (or configure controls) to toggle said turret on and off
  • icon in top right (pictured below) shows whether turret is on/off (green/red) and whether switching is on its 1 second cooldown (as shown by the grey part in the lower picture)

  • when reaching certain levels you will unlocked weapons (for example: after beating the tutorial, you will reach level two, unlocking the rocket launcher)
  • equip these weapons by entering your rocket and walking to the far right. (directions shown below)

  • equipped weapons and there cooldown are shown in the bottom right of your screen shown below (keep in mind the second weapon slot is not unlocked till level 7)

  • After every level you will gain Xp, which will help you unlock upgrades, and gold, which will let you buy them.
  • Explore the inside of you rocket. you will find rooms where upgrades can be purchased.
  • These upgrades consist of abilities and repeatable upgrades. Abilities are bought once and cant be bought again, repeatable upgrades can be purchased as many times as you want but for an increasing price and you can only upgrade up to your current level. (for example, if your level 6 you cant buy turret damage 7)
  • remember to keep checking your rocket because many upgrades wont be shown into you reach a certain level.
  • to view all levels and what they unlock click on the level tree button (pictured below) in the top left of the level selection screen and click on different levels.

  • If you want to change any settings such as master audio or keybinds, click on the settings button in the bottom left.

  • to change between levels, use arrow keys in level selection or click the previous and next page buttons on the side of the screen

All keybindings can be changed in settings menu

plans for the future:

this game is currently in early development but I am working on many new features. For the next major update I will be working on adding more weapons, enemies, and levels before working on entirely new features.

please leave comments with advice or any found bugs.

Hey man,

I came across Astral Evolutions, and the concept seems really engaging! What inspired you to create this game?

Are there any features or mechanics that you’re particularly proud of? I’d love to hear about the parts of the development process that you enjoyed the most.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
